Abstract

Background

The regeneration of deficient alveolar ridges performed before implant placement facilitates correct implant positioning. The novel biodegradable magnesium membrane has specific properties that has changed the approach to guided bone regeneration as a clinical concept.

Case presentation

We are presenting a case of bone regeneration of horizontal bony defect with a vertical component in the maxillary premolar region. A barrier resorbable magnesium membrane, Novamag (Botiss, Zossen, Germany) and a combination of biomaterials - human allograft, Maxgraft and bovine bone, Cerabone (Botiss, Zossen, Germany) in a 70 % - 30% volume ratio were used for the procedure.

Results:

The surgical procedure resulted in sufficient bone volume gain at three months post-operatively, as shown by the CBCT images. At this time point, bone level implant TRI Vent (TRI, Hunenberg, Swiss) was placed and immediately loaded with screw-retained provisional crown. Four months later, the crown was replaced with full-contour screw-retained zirconia crown which remained functionally stable and esthetically pleasing one year post-delivery.

Conclusion

The surgical protocol of bone regeneration utilizing the novel biodegradable magnesium membrane has shown excellent results. However, it requires specific technical skills and adherence to the proposed protocol for use.

Key words: resorbable magnesium, bone regeneration, implant placement
