Abstract
Improper drug and medical device management is a widespread issue in healthcare. A 2016 Polish study revealed that 62.86% of hospital managers, including pharmacists, lacked knowledge of drug management optimization, with 77% selecting drugs based on price, leading to budget mismanagement. This study assesses the relevance of ABC and VEN analyses in drug management at Clinical Hospital Štip during the COVID-19 pandemic (2019-2021). ABC analysis categorized 17% of drugs as high-cost (Group A), 14.2% as moderate-cost (Group B), and 68.8% as low-cost (Group C). During the pandemic, there was increased use of Group B and C drugs. Combining ABC with VEN analysis highlighted the need to prioritize vital low-cost drugs, demonstrating that the combined approach optimizes drug management during emergencies. This method can reduce costs and improve resource allocation when implemented alongside staff education.
