Abstract

To align with the evolving landscape of 21st-century civil society, the project aims to enhance environmental and social well-being. This will be achieved by fostering the renewable energy sector and advocating for a decrease in fossil fuel usage. Fostering the role played by local civil society and media in advocating for a decrease in fossil fuel usage in North Macedonia and the green transition is, in fact, the Overall Objective of the action. The project will promote the utilization of sustainable solar heating systems to combat air pollution and alleviate energy poverty in the Southeastern region of Macedonia. This outcome will be achieved by enhancing the role that local civil society and media organizations may play in this field. The Specific objective of the action is supporting CSOs and media organizations to boost the green agenda and circular economy in the South-eastern region of North Macedonia.

The project strategy stems from prior consultations held with key stakeholder groups, such as the ten municipal authorities located in the Southeastern Statistical Region thanks to the active involvement of the Centre for development of the South-East Region. It consists of 10 municipalities in the region. The technical expertise of the NGO “Civil Engineering – Science and Practice”, as the Faculty of Architecture of Ss. Cyril and Methodius University of Skopje and Faculty of Tourism and Business Logistics, Goce Delcev University - Stip, have contributed to the development of a strategy concerning sustainable energy devices. Finally, by performing and developing this intervention, different local institutions will be involved. Among others, the responsibility will be shared between the Bureau for Regional Development (BRD). The project will be implemented in close partnership with the local civil society organizations and the local media established in the targeted region.
