Abstract

The vast potential of the objects from the urban
parts has made huge influence in the surrounding
rural areas i.e., the settlements in the vicinity of
Ohrid, where the development process of the housing
objects adjusted to the social, economic and cultural
conditions of the region, took place in continuance.
The house, usually with an open loggia called –
čardaklija, made the biggest influence and became
the most prominent type of house in the region.
According to the form and the position of the loggia
we can define: 1.A. house with laterally placed loggia;
1.B. house with a centrally placed loggia and 1.C.
house with a loggia spreading over its entire width
and 1.D. house with an irregularly formed loggia.
The house in the region of Ohrid has preserved
the basic traditional values in regard to the form of
the settlement, the place of the house in regard to the
landscape, the optimal use of the space adjusted to the
needs, while at the same time following the already
existing forms throughout this process. Several basic
models were preserved in the region, which although
modified in the course of time, still maintained the
basic concept of the functionality, the economic use,
as well as the use of eco-friendly materials gathered
from the approximate vicinity. The large number
of models of living objects in the rural settlements
represents part of the building heritage of the lavish
cultural and historical region.
