Abstract

The main aim of the Export Potential Analysis of the Macedonian economy is to provide practical information on products, markets, and exporters with untapped potential, and ranks new strategic sectors, products and markets with favorable chances of export success. More than 1.000 existing exporting products from different sectors (according to the Harmonized System HS-6 code administrated by the World Customs Organization and used in the United States) will be analyzed to identify new export markets. Additionally, more than 2.000 potential exporting products (from agriculture and food industry; metalworking, mechanical and electrical engineering industry; textile industry and apparel; articles of wood, plastic, and rubber; construction and composite materials) which the Macedonian companies do not export or export in small volumes, but for which there is a potential comparative advantages to be exported. The Country-specific version Export Potential Analysis will cover over 150 existing and potential export markets/countries across the world, with focus on identifying new export opportunities in the EU market and beyond at product level.
Further, within the analysis will be identified more than 15.000 potential trade partners (importers) from the previously identified strategic/potential export markets/countries and products from different sectors. The mapping of potential trade partners (importers) for strategic markets and products will be extremely valuable for Macedonian export oriented companies in their efforts to find new trade partners and penetrate to new markets, while the results of the analysis will ensure increasing the export value of the country by increasing the export activities on the existing markets, as well export diversification by starting export of new products and exporting to new markets In the same time, the results of the analysis and created market information will help new potential exporters to start exporting their products. In the analysis, special focus will be given to the assessment of the impact of the Covid-19 crisis on foreign trade and the shifts in global demand from the aspect of the challenges and possibilities for better positioning of the Macedonian economy and the export-oriented companies in the regional and global supply chains. In the same time, the analyses will address the specific constraints and obstacles, as well as proposals for better promotion of the strategic exporting products. This will be useful input for NEC in the process of defining new measures for better positioning of exporting sectors in post Covid-19 period.
