This paper analyzes the characteristics of the Macedonian translation of
the Convention relating to the Status of Refugees of 28July 1951. In the paper we first
address the content of the Convention and its objectives, and then we study in more
detail its textual structure and linguistic features. Once the features of this legal text are
determined at different levels, the traductological analysis addresses the translation of
those features into Macedonian. For the observed inconsistencies or omissions in the
translation more appropriate translation solutions are recommended. In that sense the
paper aims to indicate the need for a new, modern translation of the Convention, in which these inconsistencies would be corrected.
