Abstract
The European Convention on Human Rights is fundamental in
guaranteeing human rights and freedoms on European soil. The Republic of North
Macedonia, as its signatory, is obliged to respect and implement the provisions of the
Convention towards all those who will find themselves on its territory, as foreseen by the
Convention. However, due to the migration crisis and the challenges that came with it,
North Macedonia found itself in difficulties when it comes to full implementation of the
Convention goals. Therefore, the essay will focus on the challenges that the country faced
during the migration crisis, that undermined the fulfilment of the country’s obligations
towards the Convention, brining into question the respect of human rights and freedoms
of the persons who transited the country during the crisis
