In addition to pension, disability, and health insurance, insurance in case of temporary
unemployment is one of the mandatory branches of the social security system. Because
unemployment is one of the most difficult socio-economic problems that an individual faces
during his working life, it is undoubtedly important to have an effective social insurance
system that will provide social security to the individual. This mandatory component of social
security can provide income as well as employment assistance (training and retraining) during
temporary unemployment.
The subject of the analysis in the paper will be the review of the characteristics of the
insurance mechanism in case of unemployment in the Republic of North Macedonia.
Special emphasis will be placed on the interpretation of key legal provisions that
contain the right to monetary compensation as a basic right to unemployment. Furthermore,
an analysis will be done of the procedure for exercising the rights in this area of compulsory
social insurance. The role of the institutions in the process of exercising material and legal
protection will be analyzed in detail, with special emphasis on the role of the Employment
Agency of the Republic of North Macedonia. At the end of the paper, a conclusion is given
about the advantages and disadvantages of insurance in case of unemployment in our law.
