Abstract

Summary
Contemporary events, which are represented by the global migration of the population pose a
dilemma about the future of the region and about Europe as a whole. Whether they concern
migratory processes or it is just the transfer of population from the Near and Middle East to
Europe, and what security and cultural issues these events will influence, remains to be seen.
These dilemmas, and especially the consequences of that influence on the status of culture
and security of the states of the European Union, present the main issue of interest in this
research paper. The specific aspect of interest is the perception of students of the
universities in Osijek and in Skopje towards cultural and security threats, in relation to
educational levels of migrants and their cultural habits, including the religious aspect.
The research paper includes the survey of students’ attitudes in Croatia and in Macedonia
regarding cultural and security challenges of the migratory wave, as well as the education
level of the migrants.
Key words: migration, education, cultural and security influence
