The use of antibiotic self-medication in medical patients with endodontic treatment

Abstract

It is often present self-medication among the population, especially taking the drugs which they use and it was initiation to put the purpose of this study: to assess the self-medication with antibiotics in patients that need dental work. Also, the subject of examination was to verify the antibiotics that commonly used, and to assess the role of education in self-medication.
Aim: The purpose of conducting the present study is to gain the clarity of antibiotic use, in medical patients who had some endodontic treatment.
Material and methods: The study included 40 patients with medical education aged 17-74 years, of both sexes, that due to dental services occurred in three dental offices of FMS of the University “Goce Delchev” Stip. All of them were distributed anonymous questionnaire for self-medication, which products
they use, source of drugs and etc.
Results: The results showed that self-medication is represented in the group with medical education is 16 persons (40%) that responded positively and the rest responded 60% (24 persons) negatively.
Conclusion: The antibiotics are drugs that cope with infections in the human body, in particular therapeutic dose, but at the same time, cause many unwanted problems, which in extreme cases can be lethal, their rational use and control is actually fully justified.
