Abstract

This paper presents the typical features of the language variety that is defined as "youth speech". The introduction briefly delves into explaining the differences between youth speech and other language variants. Then definitions of jargon are presented and terminological specification is made between the terms functional style, slang, jargon and argo. In addition, the special characteristics of the jargon are presented, the speech of the youth is defined and the differences between the speech of the youth and the jargon are determined. Furthermore, the paper gives a brief overview of the beginnings of linguists' interest in youth speech and precisely defines the functions of youth speech.
