Abstract

The voltammetry of so called electrochemical-catalytic or EC' mechanism is a basis for the evaluation of drug-drug interactions studied under voltammetric conditions. Although the maximal (or limiting) current features of this mechanism can be explored for the evaluation of the rate constant of drug-drug interactions, a rather rare phenomenon of "catalytic post-wave" can also be used for the determination of chemical rate constant of such interactions. Since this catalytic post-wave in square-wave voltammetry appears in a very limited region of chemical rate constants, and since its apparent magnitude depends on the concentration of one of the drugs used in the experiment (under constant concentration of the so-called redox active drug), then an experimental observation of this phenomenon can lead to a very precise determination of the magnitude of chemical rate constant of drug-drug interactions. This is a simple alternative method for evaluation of "K-interactions" that has not been explored in the literature so far.
