Abstract
Uveitis is an inflammatory disorder of the uveal tract of the eye that can affect both adults and children. Uveal tract consists of iris, ciliary body and choroid. . It is a serious disease, associated with possible severe complications leading to visual impairment and blindness. The sooner uveitis is treated, the more successful treatment is likely to be. Тhe more common complications of uveitis include: -glaucoma - where the optic nerve, which connects your eye to your brain, becomes damaged; it can lead to loss of vision if not found and treated early -cataracts – where changes in the lens of the eye cause it to become less transparent, resulting in cloudy or misty vision -cystoid macular oedema - swelling of the retina (the thin, light-sensitive layer of tissue at the back of the eye); it can affect some people with long-term or posterior uveitis -detached retina - when the retina begins to pull away from the blood vessels that supply it with oxygen and nutrients • posterior synechiae - inflammation that causes the iris to stick to the lens of the eye; it's more likely to happen if uveitis is not treated quickly. The aim of this study is to evaluate the epidemiological aspects of Uveitis, such as the prevalence of Uveitis in the eastern region of Macedonia, the prevalence of uveitis associated with inflammatory rheumatic diseases, the prevalence of gender and age groups. Methods; In this study were treated 26 184 patients who were examined in the eye department in the Clinical Hospital Stip in a period of 3 years (2018-2020), some of them through data from the history of the disease, and some directly during the examination. In each patient diagnosed with Uveitis an ophthalmic examination was performed with determination of visual acuity, measured intraocular pressure, examination of a slit lamp before and after mydriasis. Results; The prevalence of uveitis in the eastern region of RS Macedonia is 1.5% (39 patients). In 24 patients (60.2%) uveitis is registered monocularly, while in 15 patients (49%) it is binocular. In 8 patients (23%) is diagnosed Spondylitis Ankylosing spondylitis, in 5 patients (13%) with Uveitis is diagnosed Rheumatoid arthritis with RF +, 2 patients (5%) with psoriatic arthritis, 1 patient (2.5%) with juvenile idiopathic arthritis and the rest with unknown etiology. of Uveitis is 38 +/- 18.4 years. Conclusion; Uveitis is a serious disease, associated with possible severe complications leading to vision impairment and blindness. For this reason, prompt diagnosis and evaluation of appropriate treatment are extremely important.
