Abstract

Considering that the western region of Kosovo has an extremely great potential for development of urban tourism, with much more to be done to complement and improve the current situation, the aim of this study is to determine what are the factors and opportunities that affect the development of urban tourism in this region. It is known that the region of Kosovo includes six municipalities: Peja, Gjakova, Klina, Junik, Decani and Istog. Surrounded by mountains, lakes, rivers, bridges, cultural heritage, this region represents a great potential for the development of urban tourism, so it should be promoted as much as possible. Therefore, in order for tourists to be satisfied with tourist destination, they must primarily satisfied their needs, providing them with the best conditions in order to feel like at home. For the western region, we can point out that the sustainable development of tourism should be based on natural resources and cultural heritage, factors that represent the competitive advantage of the region. This region, like any other part of Kosovo, faces various challenges as a result of a lack of investment in economic development. For the realization of this work we used the descriptive method, as well as statistical and cartographic method. The results of the research showed that the entire local population in all municipalities of this region, have almost the same opinion on certain issues, which primarily refers to the fact that this region has the potential for urban tourism development and adequate natural resources.
