Abstract

The postcard is a powerful medium in which people openly and naively believe under the slogan - "one picture is worth a thousand words". The main reason for writing the paper is to research and identify the impact of postcards in promoting tourism. The purpose of the paper are postcards about Ohrid and the immediate surroundings that have not been the subject of research so far and were printed in the socialist period (1945-1991). The following results were identified with the method of theoretical analysis of a large number of postcards: postcards were the main means of visual - media communication between people; postcards were the main means of tourist promotion of Ohrid and the region as a natural and cultural world heritage protected by UNESCO; postcards are an important and indispensable tool in the history of tourism of the city and the region, and the postcards were a proven promoter of Ohrid and the immediate surroundings as a popular tourist destination with continuous growth of tourism in SR Macedonia, SFR Yugoslavia and beyond.
