Abstract
The Republic of North Macedonia has initiated the process of European integration in 2004 and since then it follows a continuous harmonization with the EU law in matters of asylum and migration. In 2015 and 2016 it was affected by the big migratory influx that struck all Europe. In front of it the country found itself to be greatly unprepared, before all because it did not dispose of a proper legislative framework that would have permitted
migrants to legally transit the country, and second, because some gaps emerged in the institutional-legislative system in matters of asylum and migration. The research will focus principally on the collected date from
the progress reports of the European Commission in the period that goes from 2011 to 2019. Obviously, considering the great reach of the subject, there will be presented only some observations. The second aspect will be
dedicated to the regional and international cooperation of North Macedonia in matter of prevention of illegal migration and readmission of third country nationals, where, other than the scientific research, also other non-official dates will be presented, obtained in an unofficial interview with a Macedonian border police officer. All this in order to give a clear idea about the level of Europeanization of the legislation and the national policies in matter of migration and asylum of North Macedonia and its alignment with the EU law.
