Abstract
Republic of North Macedonia has steadily strengthened its asylum system over the years. The legislative framework has been upgraded and is mostly in line with international standards. But significant weaknesses persist in the asylum system in practice. Somehow the countries from the Balkan route started to copy the arrogance of the EU countries and do what they do by “just do what the north neighbor does and say that you had no choice." This presentation aims to show the asylum procedure in the the Republic of North Macedonia and to address its weaknesses and perspectives.
