Abstract

Abstract: Achilles tendon tendonitis is one of the most common chronic diseases affecting athletes. Although it is the healthiest tendon in the human body, systemic high loads in sports and untreated injuries can be the cause of chronic pain and inflammation. Inflammation of the Achilles tendon can occur in two places: in the middle of the tendon and in its place of attachment to the bone of the heel.
The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of acupuncture in the treatment of Achilles tendonitis in athletes.
Methods of study: The study was conducted in recreational center at UGD - Stip for a period of two months. The study involved 9 athletes with inflammation or injury to the Achilles tendon, which are divided into two groups.
Patients from the control group received conservative treatment with physical therapy and kinesiotherapy.
Patients from the Experimental Group received, in addition to conservative treatment, acupuncture treatment in the relevant area of the Achilles tendon.
Results: acupuncture benefits Achilles tendon in both acute and chronic conditions. Acupuncture promotes significant reduction in pain and swelling of the Achilles tendon and increases functionality.
Discussion: Research shows several important findings. Acupuncture speeds up the recovery and helps restore the normal functioning of the tendon. In addition, acupuncture strengthens the tendons and can prevent exacerbations, weights and future injuries.
Conclusion: Acupuncture is highly effective, with rapid results for both acute and chronic Achilles tendinopathy and is easy to perform. Acupuncture is widely used in clinics around the world and is even commonly used by professional athletes.
Keywords: Achilles tendon, tendinopathy, injuries, аcupuncture, conservative treatment.
