Abstract

This paper presents several novel covert channels in the Constrained Application Protocol (CoAP) - a specialized Web transfer protocol used for Internet of Things. The suggested new covert channels are categorized according to the pattern-based classification, and, for each covert channel, the total number of hidden data bits transmitted per second, or per protocol data unit is given, together with the theoretical performance evaluation. Additionally, we present a methodology for power consumption analysis of these covert channels, and we give the experimental results of applying this methodology for one of the discovered CoAP covert channels.
