Abstract
This paper intends to present some results of a larger interdisciplinary research project on Italian so-called «migrant literature» by introducing an innovative analytical approach to this cultural phenomenon in Italy. The term «Italian migrant literature» (letteratura di migrazione) refers to a «sub-genre» developed in Italy in the last two decades by authors from migrant backgrounds who choose to write in Italian. The research project examines texts from Italian migrant literature from an ethnomethodological and sociolinguistic perspective in order to identify elements by which individuals are categorised as «migrants».
The paper, therefore, offers some concrete examples of membership categorization analysis applied to the autobiographical novel Porto il velo, adoro i Queen, written by Sumaya Abdel Qader.
