Abstract
Some of the most prominent modelers who worked during the first half of the XXth century – Jacques
Dusse, Madeleine Vionnet, Mariano Fortuny and Madrazo and Jeanne Paquin do not completely dissociate
themselves from their colleagues who have worked before them. The very fashion of the twentieth century as an
expression of the social ideal is based on the excellence of its predecessors, and it is also its great merit – to use
the achievements by developing and enriching the best of them. By creating their collections of clothes, these
designers rely not on their particular buyer, unlike their colleagues from the last century, but they have before
them the collective, generalized image that, according to the philosophers, „gathers” all individual consumers.
Urgently, designers declare this image as conforming to the ideal (projecting in itself the ideal), or at least tightly
approaching it.
