Abstract

The main purpose of this paper is the presentation of material related to ecotourism development in national parks in Macedonia. The paper covers literature review of ecotourism, the definition of national parks, their management and role in preserving the natural and cultural heritage. The attention has been given to the organization, departments and work force of national parks and benefits to the ecotourism development. The paper provides basic data for ecotourism development in Macedonia such as ecotourism legislative and government bodies responsible for ecotourism development. Table showing national parks in Macedonia, their territory characteristics, web pages, management plans as well as ecotourism development strategies are used to prepare a contemporary analysis of ecotourism in the national parks. For the purpose of paper, we use research methodology and secondary data sources by consulting official tourism literature, laws, web pages and management plans of national parks, concerning ecotourism development. An analysis and review of national parks has been made, based on systematical evaluation of the official web pages’ actual content. At the end of the paper concluding observations and recommendations are given for potential development of ecotourism in national parks in Macedonia.
