Abstract
This article is actually a view of what in Russian cultural and philosophical theories is
known as the «Russian idea». This is a text about how a stranger perceives the Russian
idea, not only from the theoretical point of view, but also how one experiences the Russian
culture. That is why I attempt in this text to give a review of the basic historical events that
have determined the origin of the Russian idea, and from this historical aspect to provide
insight into the essence of the Russian idea. At the end I try to compare these past forms of
the Russian idea with the modern conditions and the future. In conclusion, I dispute with
the essence of that what the Russians mean by the Russian idea, and I claim that that kind
of ³Ideas´ are overcome in the age of the postmodern view point.
