Abstract
This paper analyzes the international sources of law in the field of legal protection of trademarks in the European Union. In the first part of the paper, the authorsexplain the First Council Directive 89/104 / EEC from December21st, 1988. on the harmonization of the laws between Member States in relation to trade marks. In the second part of the paper, the authors make a parallel with the Directive2008/95/EC of the European Parliament and Council Directive from October 22nd, 2008 as well as Directive from 2015 which is in the process of harmonization with the laws of the Member States of the European Union. Special attention is paid to the harmonization of these directives with the domestic legislation, taking into consideration the advantages and weaknesses.
In that context,the shortcomings in the normative regulation of the trademark rights will be evident with the special emphasis on the well-known trademarks.
