Abstract

Periodontitis, today rightfully are often mentioned. The majority of adult individuals have this disease, and the importance is much greater, knowing that it is the main cause of tooth loss after the age of 45th year.
The complexity of this disease stems from a combination of interactive etiological factors and individual systemic conditions. The disease is characterized by inflammation of the gums, loss of connective tissue attachment and loss of alveolar bone. As a result of progressive loss of the supporting apparatus, teeth involved in the disease process eventually manifest increased tooth mobility.
Because of all this the treatment of periodontally compromised patients requires a multidisciplinary approach that includes comprehensive or sequential treatment. The incidence of prosthetic therapy in patients with reduced periodontal support is growing and therefore dealing with the increased mobility. Therefore, to have a favorable prognosis it is recommendedto include, in the defined logical sequence of the clinical approach,so-called "Periodontal prosthesis" used as a therapeutic tool to treat periodontal disease.
The purpose of this lecture is to give an overview of the classification, indications, contraindications and basic principles of the use of "periodontal prosthesis," because in terms of periodontal therapy plan for patients with compromised tooth leverage is to establish a solid foundation on which periodontal final prosthetic reconstruction will be set.
