Abstract

The objective of this study was to determine the agro biological characteristics of two row barley genotypes and to define the genotypes resistant to low temperatures and drought.
The experiment work was conducted on the research fields of the Faculty of Agriculture, “Goce Delchev” University in the Republic of Macedonia during the period of 2012-2014. The laboratories analyses were done in the Institute of Agriculture, republic of Bulgaria. As an experimental material were used total 21 winter two row barley varieties with different origin. Five of them have Macedonian origin (Hit, Izvor, Egej, Line 1 and Line 2), two are Serbian (NS 525 and NS 565), two have Croatian (Zlatko and Rex) and the other have Bulgarian origin (Obzor, Perun, Emon, Lardeya, Orfej, Imeon, Zagorec, Asparuh, Kuber, Sajra, Devinija and Odisej). The data obtained for phonological stages during barley vegetation in both experimental years were not differing. Four of analyzed genotypes (Odisej, Orfej, Line 2 and Izvor) showed good biological resistance to drought. Those genotypes can be used in barley breeding programs when the objective is to create drought resistant variety. The genotypes with Bulgarian origin showed better resistance to low temperatures compared to other examined genotypes.
From all genotypes, for Sajra was obtained the highest percentage of surviving plants after treatment with low temperatures.
Key words: two row barley varieties, resistance to drought and low temperatures
