Abstract
This paper reviews the issue of adolescent literature. However, when someone mentions “youth literature”, the following questions are immediately asked: what is children literature, what is youth literature, is there a hybrid genre as a children and youth literature or should these genres be distinguished according to some characteristics, what is the difference between them, is there any difference, if the name refers to the age difference of the literature consumers, then what is/are the boundaries etc…? Firstly, it seems that the age group regarding this literature should be defined. A lot of theoreticians have written about this, but it seems that consensus has not been reached considering this issue. There are always pros and cons. For this purpose, the author of the paper pays attention to researches from numerous eminent names, theoreticians of children and youth literature. There have been a lot of debates regarding this issue as well, such as whether there is a standardized genre or category which encompasses many genres, how is it defined, which are its characteristics, whether the literal or pedagogical value is dominant etc. These debates may have hindered the development of youth literature in the past; however, the increasing number of popular youth novels indicates the fact that the youth literature has still an opportunity for improvement.
