Abstract
The dissolution of former Yugoslav federation was a specific challenge for the whole international community and especially for USA and EU. This was the time period right after the end of the cold war and a period of establishing a new international system. The USA and EU were in a kind of process of redefining their foreign policy priorities. The dissolution of Yugoslavia occurred in this complicated time period. This paper uses qualitative methods and literature units. The results shows that EU did not handle this process the best and the USA was a little more successful in bringing the peace but was also quite hesitant to act.
