Abstract

For years, scientists and linguists have been trying to discover the main reasons and factors that influence foreign language acquisition. They have been asking themselves the question: “Why are some people better at
learning a foreign language than others?”. They have come up with a lot of ideas, suggestions, and hypothesis, many of which include the use of language learning strategies as an important factor. The main goal of this study is to
investigate whether successful EFL learners in the final year of their primary and secondary education use similar or different strategies when learning English as a foreign language. The results show that there are a lot of
similarities in the use of learning strategies, but sometimes certain differences can be noticed with the use of some strategies by particular groups of students.
