Abstract
In the daily business operation decision-makers are faced with many
uncertainties involved in the decision making. In circumstances where there is
uncertainty, the business decision-making process becomes more complex. Fora
long time decision-makers cannot rely only on experience and intuition, but they
must take into consideration the fact that the complexity of the economic and
business behavior cannot precisely include in process of making right decisions
which will give maximum results.
Including the numerous factors that determine the risk and uncertainty in
decision making, decision-makers in these circumstances cannot perform a
complete analysis which will provide solutions that will generate positive results for
the given problem. From that reason, there is a need of using quantitative analysis
which includes many quantitative methods and tools that create a wide range of
numerical methods that enable review and help in decision making.
The importance of quantitative methods in business decision making is
perceived from the fact that with their use decision-makers can logically and
objectively observe the given problem, to determine the key variables and the results
of the calculations, to analyze the problem and find an optimal solution, to compare
alternatives and select the best, to compare performances across different
operations and different time frames, to explain possible solutions and represent the
best alternative, to justify the decision, and to overcome all subjective and biased
attitudes.
The subject of research in this master's thesis is the use of mathematical
modeling in the process of business decision making through the use of created
mathematical models. The purpose is to develop models in the system of decision
making, incorporating factors such as risk and opportunities, which can predict and
compare the results of alternative decisions or strategies. In this way they will help
the decision-makers to determine the activities in direction toward finding an optimal
policy in business decision making and simplify the procedure of solving complex
real problems.
Key words: business decisions, quantitative analysis, quantitative methods,
mathematical models.
