Efficacy of some insecticides and correlation between the dose of application and the number of live larvae of Tuta absoluta (Meyrick) in tomato cultivated in protected area

Abstract

Aim. The tests were performed during 2015 and 2016 to determine the efficacy of two insecticides in the controlling Tuta absoluta (Meyrick) and the correlation between the application dose and the number of live larvae at tomato plants in protected area. Materials and method: The tested insecticides with their respective concentrations of 100L water are Spinosad (Laser): 40ml/100L, 50ml/100L and 60ml/100L water and Indoxacarb (Avaunt): 25ml/100L, 35ml/100L, 50ml/100L. The experiment is set at two locations (Kuklish - Strumica and Josifovo - Gevgelija) following the method of a randomized block system, in four repetitions of treatments. Results: The inspection of the plants is carried out on three or seven days. In the control of T. absoluta all treatments have proven to be effective. Nevertheless, taking into account the complexity of the pest in both years of the study, both localities, the most effective proved indoxacarb, at a dose of 50 ml/100L, with an efficiency of over 90%, both localities in both years of investigations. Conclusion: These findings suggest the possibility of using spinosad or indoxacarb as chemical agents for the control of T. absoluta, alone or in combination with other measures in the integrated protection of tomatoes from T. absoluta in protected area.
