Abstract

Introduction: In order to establish vital signs immediately after birth, neonatal resuscitation is being conducted, as a life-saving procedure. But the risk of long-term adverse development remains high. This fact implies the importance of timely and appropriate resuscitation at birth. It is considered that almost 10% of all newborns need some form of respiratory assistance after birth; only 1% require more advanced forms of resuscitation. The procedure must not be chaotic, but should always be conducted following an evidence-based algorithm, (re)evaluating vital signs in pre-determined intervals. Globally accepted Clinical guideline is published by the International Liaison Committee for Resuscitation-ILCOR.
