Abstract

C-reactive protein (CRP) has been proposed as a sensitive inflammatory biomarker and an independent predictor for cardiovascular risk in healthy (inflammation and necrosis free) population. For this purpose a method with high sensitivity (hsCRP-high sensitivity CRP) that measures very precisely the values of this parameter from 0 to 10 mg/L has been used.
The aim of our study was to determine the correlation between immunochemiluminescent (Immulite) and immunoturbidimetric (Olympus AU400) methods for hsCRP, for the reason of correct interpretation of patient’s results.
We have selected 52 serum samples with hsCRP levels up to 10 mg/L and after measurement on both analyzers we calculated the correlation coefficient (r=0.995) and the linear regression: (Olympus)=0.785(Immulite)+0.200.
From our results we conclude that there is a high correlation between compared methods and that both of them can be successfully used for precise measurement of hsCRP as an emerging biomarker for assessment of atherogenic risk.
