Abstract

Electrode reactions of many hydrophilic drugs and water-soluble enzymes can be coupled with so-called regenerative step. Under such conditions, a chemical reaction between the electrochemically generated product and a given (electro-inactive) substrate can led to regeneration of the initial reactant. This mechanism has quite specific features that can be used as diagnostic criteria for recognizing it. Moreover, the features of simulated voltammograms can give access to the Michaelis Menten constant of many enzyme-substrate reactions. We provide readers entire MATHCAD working sheet with all parameters affecting the theoretical voltammograms under conditions of square-wave voltammetry.
