Abstract

Cancer is one of the main causes of death in the world, and a major issue for human health. Prolonged exposure to a number of chemicals was observed to be one of the primary causes of cancer. The monitoring of the surrounding environment for chemicals and compounds with possible genotoxic activity is of high priority. Genotoxic events have been known as crucial step in the initiation of cancer. For evaluating risk of cancer, genetic damage can be determined by genotoxicity assays, including comet assay, micronucleus assay, chromosome aberration assay, gamma-H2AX, and bacterial reverse testing. In this review, the micronucleus assay and the comet assay are focused. This present a brief overview of computer-aided image analysis tools and tasks for genotoxicology. The aim of this overview is to introduce the laboratory technicians to the modern tools of signal processing and data mining for microscopy, highlighting opportunities for innovative research in gentoxicology and other area of medicine. Images analysis play a major role in understanding of biological processes and cell changes and they very important for measurement present in genotoxicological study . Computer image analysis largely contains the fields of computer or machine vision, and medical imaging, and makes heavy use of pattern recognition, digital geometry, and signal processing. Image processing is the general issue in today’s era, when we work with computer vision. Digital image processing and analysis of information in images are methods that become increasingly important in many technical and scientific fields, including almost all biological sciences.
