Abstract

Without question, transportation research is on the rise in actual policy of any society, especially today in era of globalization. Any economy in national and regional level, to keep up with global challenges must have developed a renewed interest in revitalizing their transportation systems. These systems may include public transit, highways, roads, airports, and other infrastructure.
Transportation geography measures the result of human activity between and within locations. It focuses on items such as modes of transport, vital component to achieving the “four freedoms” (the free movement of people, goods, services and capital) and crucial factor to sustainable development. Any kind of transportation must consider its geographical setting, and then choose an available form of transport based on cost, availability, and space.
Establishing an efficient trans-European transport network (TEN-T) has constituted a key element in the realized Maastricht Treaty and Lisbon Strategy and will play a central role in the attainment of the objectives of the Europe 2020 Strategy. Transport was seen as a crucial element in the establishment of the Common Market, makes straightly European integration and also constitutes an important component of the European economy. It generates substantial employment, assist regional development, enforce links between trading flows and provide access to all sorts of services, leisure activity and job opportunity. Transport sector contributes some 7% of GDP and more than 5% of total employment in the EU (more than 10 million people).
Research in this paper is targeted to the valorization of trans-European transport network in Western Balkans region in the process of European integration, transport corridors and the methodological conceptualization of the transport development of Macedonia in the European integration process.
