Abstract

Dilatation of the ascending aorta is often encountered during surgery for aortic valve disease. Reduction ascending aortoplasty (RAA) is a technique for reduction of the aortic diameter, resulting in a reduced aortic wall stress and a diminished risk of rupture or dissection. It is an alternative to standard graft replacement of dilated ascending aorta. The aim of this study is to retrospectively analyze the preoperative results and follow up dimensions of the ascending aorta in 50 patients who underwent RAA along with other cardiac procedures in our institution.
