Abstract

Music Progressive Quartet
Direct from Skopje, Macedonia, MUSIC PROGRESSIVE QUARTET (MPQ) is comprised of four young, conservatory-trained, world-class professional classical musicians who play with the Macedonian Philharmonic and guest with countless other groups and at numerous festivals in the Balkans and beyond. In MPQ, they break out into another idiom, presenting a fresh jazz take on traditional folk songs of Macedonia. Beguiling audiences with total mastery of their instruments (violin, viola, cello, and oboe), innovative and witty arrangements, and a warm and engaging stage manner, they were a surprise break-out hit at last year’s Balkan Music Night. They are back in Boston this year for another appearance at Balkan Music Night; a performance at the Lily Pad (Cambridge, MA) on March 18 at 1 pm; and a concert at the Longy School on Monday morning, March 19. They will also appear in NYC next weekend at Balkan/world music mecca, Drom.
The members of MPQ are Vladimir Lazarevski ,oboe and English horn; Vladimir Krstev, violin and tambura; Marko Videnovik, viola and composer/arranger; and Paskal Krapovski, cello.
