Abstract

Folk construction is an important part of the national construction heritage, which developed in the context of socio-economic conditions and folk traditional living. The researches of the folk architectural heritage in the period of the 20th century are published ethnological materials that cover certain areas or settlements, and refer to the basic developments and constructive features of the residential traditional architecture. In the second half of the 20th century, systematized research on the development and valorization of folk architecture was focused on the constant connection of traditional architecture with current contemporary architecture and external influences. However, the impacts were reduced to certain external elements, without much impact on the spatial structure and type of building. Folk architectural work is part of the cultural values, as part of a wide area of autochthonous folk art and thus should be treated.
The development of the living space unit was related to the constant social changes, the emergence of the cooperative and the transformations and expansion of the family, which was reflected in the spatial development and changes of the spatial whole of the dwellings. The influences from the Oriental-Turkish residential culture were expressed in the town house, while the rural environment retained its own local understanding of the living space of the house. In folk terminology, the center of the living space is associated with the space where the hearth is, with the fire, and is called the house, while other spatial elements developed further with another term.
