Abstract

The traditional way of building contains certain values according to the local characteristics, as part of the national cultural heritage. The characteristics of the house in the city of Shtip, have certain local and distinctive features, and as part of the wider Balkan region.
According to local conditions and materials in the period of several centuries, a model of a city house was defined, with a mandatory spatial element - a porch (loggia) on the first floor. In doing so, residential buildings were formed with the division of the economic premises on the ground floor and the rooms for staying on the floor. The porch as the most important communication space and space with many functions, determined the model of the organization of the housing space, on which is defined a typology of the house with porch. At the same time, the local materials are dominated by the stone on the ground floor and the wooden, bonduch construction on the floor, which also determines the structure and decoration of the structural elements and their processing.
