Abstract

The ophiolitic massif Demir Kapija-Gevgelija is located in the Central Vardar subzone and stretches about 50 km in length. From the east and west it is limited by regional dissection, while from the northwest it is transgressively covered with eocene flysch sediments of the Tikves Basin. On the basis of lithological studies it has been ascertained that the ophiolitic complex is part of the oceanic crust. The following formations take part in the lithostratigraphic structure of the ophiolitic massif Demir Kapija-Gevgelija: gabbroids and related plutonic rocks, sheeted dyke complex, massive basalts, spilitic pillow basalts, spilite - keratophire level, basalt - chert formation, flysch formation and carbonatic formation.
