Abstract

Research goal of this paper is to optimize two different electrical devices with respect to their efficiency. First one is a synchronous motor with surface mounted magnets and the second one is an inductor which is an integral part of LCL filter. Optimization in case of the motor is done by varying two design parameters: rotor diameter and the axial length of the motor. Parametric analysis of the motor is set resulting in more than hundred different variations of motor model. The best solution with the highest efficiency factor is chosen as motor optimized model. Inductor is optimized by varying the number of turns of the winding and axial length for various switching frequencies in software program based on method of genetic algorithms. Both electrical devices are analyzed with Finite Element Method (FEM) in terms of the flux density distribution.
