Abstract

Education in 21 st century has the key role in addressing many contrdaictions with whom facing modern, contemporary siociety. It needs educated people who possess quality knowledge and competences, which will contribute the progress and development of society as a whole. The key factor in educational proces is the teacher (teacher of primary, secondary schooll, preschool teacher). From him is required to be open to change in the paradigms of education, goals, forms, contents and methods od teaching and learning, scientific knowledge. To him is set a number of tasks which requires new and new roles. So, we set a numeruous of queastion which is a subject od disscuss in this paper as: Which and which type of competencies teacher have/should have? Does initial teacher education can provide them with the necessary competences that help them to deal with many obstacle, new challenges in modern society?To what should be directed teacher’s proffesional development,in order to succesfully meet the needs of community understanding as society that learns, develops?
