Abstract

We are living in a time when knowledge and formal education are one of the essential segments for the realization of young people’s professional ambitions. In order to realize this, a young student should, from the very beginning of his/her education, be objectively and accurately assessed by teachers. But, can education and students’ assessment be really measured? Qualitative education is very difficult to measure. It is affected by a variety of factors such as: environment, tradition, conditions of the teaching process, teachers’ professional competence, etc. Pupils’ assessment in elementary school has so far been traditionally assessed using teachers’ pocket books and, of course, school registers, and parents have hardly had any access to these. As opposed to our system of value and the grading manner, in the European countries and the USA this process is done in a more advanced and objective way. The Ministry of Education in R. Macedonia together with the Ministry of Information Society responded positively to the need for innovations in this part of the educational process, and they decided to accept this challenge and to impose it as a significant part for the update of the education. Such an operating system which would serve to provide a successful realization of the assessment process in the R. Macedonia is the selected operating system EDUBUNTU as a one version of the operating system Linux. In order to realize this, a certain training to use this software is needed for the teachers in primary and secondary schools. This training is in progress, and we hope they will successfully be able to realize the task given by the Ministry of Education. The purpose of this paper is to perceive the advantages and disadvantages of the students' assessment process when using this electronic school register as opposed, of course, to the traditional school register.
